Non-Surgical Facial Feature Reconstruction
For patients with special facial reconstruction or deep scar correction needs Dr. Melnick specializes in the use of Radiesse for this correction. Radiesse may be used to fill and smooth deep scar depressions from facial injury or acne scarring. Most impressively, this product may be used to reconstruct the facial features when features have become imbalanced by severe tissue damage or by a shattered bone in the face. Just as Dr. Melnick augments the nose in the non-surgical nose shaping he may also recreate the balanced appearance of a jaw, cheek, or brow bone that has been injured.

Radiesse is an excellent alternative to Hylaform and other wrinkle fillers because it is hypoallergenic, more resilient and significantly more stable. Radiesse is made with smooth calcium hydroxylapatite, which is suspended in an aqueous based gel that stays soft and malleable long after injection. Because calcium is a natural mineral found in our bones, it will not cause any allergic reactions and is completely biodegradable. Additionally, the body naturally grows tissues around Radiesse without absorbing the product too quickly.

Results with Radiesse are immediate and long lasting. Doctors usually have to "over-fill" with other fillers because a certain amount of the injection is consequentially absorbed by surrounding tissue within the first few days. With Radiesse, no over-filling is necessary, actual results are seen immediately, and because the body does not absorb the implant, its restorative quality lasts much longer.
At The Laser & Cosmetic Center in Los Gatos, Radiesse injections are administered using very thin needles so there is little discomfort. Local anesthesia is administered prior to the injections for a virtually painless procedure. Some swelling of the effected area should be expected for at least a day.
