Facial Autograft Muscle Insertion (FAMI)

Fat TransferThe FAMI technique, Facial Autograft Muscle Insertion, is a time-tested procedure that enhances the volume of the facial muscles beneath the skin. For many people, the aging process affects the muscular tone of the face creating hollow or gaunt looking features. A facelift, which tightens the outer skin, will not help or improve the fullness of the musculature beneath the skin.

The FAMI technique, commonly referred to as a Face Pump, is a procedure utilizing fat transfer from the lower portion of the body, which in turn become fat injections into the facial muscles adding volume and rejuvenating the tissues creating youthful contours and healthy looking features. Dr. Melnick is a specialist in the FAMI technique and studied with Dr. Roger Amar, the French physician who modified the FAMI technique.

Before After

At The Laser & Cosmetic Center, serving patients in the Los Gatos and San Jose areas, Face Pump procedures are used to enrich the fullness of cheeks and lips, to fortify hollow areas, and to fill in wrinkles and lines. Face Pump treatment reinforces and restores the innate muscular structures of the face reclaiming your natural, youthful, appearance.

The FAMI technique consists of two procedures performed during one operation. The first is the fat transfer procedure, which is harvesting fat cells from an area of excess fat deposits on the lower part of the body. The FAMI technique does not require freezing and thawing harvested fat, instead fat cells are centrifuged and immediately injected in the face. The second procedure is fat injection, which involves special injection techniques to introduce the fat cells deep into the atrophied muscle tissue.

Recent advances in FAMI techniques make it an optimal procedure. New knowledge about the depth of fat injections in the muscle tissue to insure proper blood circulation, assuring long term, symmetrical results, has dramatically improved the success rate of this operation. FAMI is also safe; since fat transfer cells are harvested from your body, there is no risk of an allergic reaction to the fat injections.
