Controlling Acne
Acne is a complicated treatment problem, Dr. Melnick and Silvia Ramirez, our Medical Esthetician, have a solution for acne blemishes, pimples, blackheads, and post acne scarring. Every patient will need a unique and customized treatment approach to address the true skin condition. We offer a complimentary skin analysis and consultation with Dr. Melnick and our medical esthetician to assess your personal needs.
Particular treatments and homecare products will be recommended to control active acne breakouts, restore healthy pore condition, heal damaged skin, and correct post acne scarring. Photodynamic Therapy may be used including Dusa® Blu-U light treatments for controlling bacteria in the skin or Levulan® Kerastick solution combines with Blu-U or IPL laser activation to address more severe acne conditions. Other treatments utilized for acne control include Acne Surgery/Extractions, and DermaSweep™ MD- micro resurfacing with Salicylic infusion.
Dr. Melnick published the following article in the
2005 Journal of Drugs in Dermatology:
"Cystic Acne Improved by Photodynamic Therapy with Short-Contact 5-Aminolevulinic Acid and Sequential Combination of Intense Pulsed Light and Blue Light Activation"
"Photodynamic therapy with short-contact 5-aminolevulinic acid (Levulan® Kerastick®, Dusa Pharmaceuticals, Inc.) and activation by intense pulsed light in an initial treatment and blue light in 3 subsequent treatments has resulted in significant improvement in severity of acne, reduction in the number of lesions, improvement in skin texture, and smoothing of scar edges in an Asian patient with severe (class 4) facial cystic acne and scarring."
Acne Scar Correction
Once active acne is under control, embarrassing pitted scarring and discolorations may remain. Scarring may be addressed with resurfacing treatments by the Alma Pixel® laser. A series of these treatments can make significant correction to the texture of the skin and reduce the appearance of enlarged pores.
Dark discolorations that remain post acne breakout may be addressed by the Alma IPL laser; reducing and clarifying the color of the skin to brighten and rejuvenate damaged looking skin.
